Ebrah (Arabic) : Wisdom.
I named my most recent painting, Ebrah, because it is a common female name in Pakistan meaning wisdom, or to learn from experience. A young Pakistani girl gazes down the lens from a camp she now inhabits from being exiled from her home. This portrait struck me as a little girl who has seen and experienced many things that a you d girl shouldn't. Being forced to leave her home, seen families separated, her government corrupted and people hurt all in front of her innocent ideas. Too young to have any strong ideals, she moves within the society of chaos and I think this is really shown through her expression in the painting. She gazes down the lens as though she were much older, but she appears to only be a young child. So therefore I concluded that Ebrah was the fitting name for her.
